Theraputic Approach
Because every individual is entirely unique, different approaches work better than others for each client. For this reason, I am somewhat eclectic in my approach to therapy. I borrow from different perspectives as seems fitting. Having said that, I am primarily Cognitive Behavioral in my orientation.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, is a popular type of talk therapy that often works as well or even better than medication to treat depression and anxiety. It is equally as effective at addressing the low self-esteem that often accompanies these conditions. CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and actions are interconnected, and that these negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle.
CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. It focuses on current problems, and with a positive orientation, it looks for practical ways to improve your state of mind on a daily basis. In other words, it focuses on your strengths as apposed to your weakness as a launching pad to steer you toward a more successful future.

BRAIN-BASED STRATEGIES FOR
CHRONIC ILLNESS
I have a particular passion for helping others with chronic illness. The physical and emotional challenges involved in navigating these waters can be daunting, and despite the particular ailment or disorder, chronic illnesses can often present a series of obstacles that are common to all.
I have dedicated a large portion of my continuing education to better understanding invisible illnesses like Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, and other autoimmune disorders. I use evidence-based techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, CBT, goal-setting, and neuropsychology to move people from despair to hope.
